Kumon Math and Reading Centers develop the untapped potential of each and every child through building confidence and developing skills in the fundamental building blocks of math and reading.

At the Kumon Center of Gilbert, we believe that every child has the potential to learn far beyond our expectations. It is the job of our Kumon Center to encourage each individual child to want to learn, to enjoy learning, and to be capable of studying successfully in the future.

Homework and classwork are carefully assessed for speed and accuracy to maintain the right level of challenge and to ensure that mastery is attained as each new skill is introduced. Our Instructor and Instructor Assistants work very closely with each individual student and his or her family to create the best study plan possible for the student, whether the need is for remedial help or for advanced study.

At the Kumon Center of Gilbert learning is a student driven activity. Many of our students are in the grade range between K through 12. And, their study material spans from pre-school through college level. By practicing everyday, and learning in small, manageable steps, the student is able to build strong study habits and confidence. Our students strive not only for excellence in higher level math and reading but also to ultimately become independent learners.

Meet the Staff

Our Instructor and Instructor Assistants are trained and certified through a comprehensive system which ensures that they offer the best in Kumon instruction to each student.

Mrs. BARBARA Penaloza

Director

Mrs. Barbara is an accomplished Engineer; she has a degree in Structural Engineering. She worked in various capacities and levels of responsibilities in Austin and in the Phoenix-metro area. For several years, Mrs. Barbara taught technical classes in drafting, CAD, math, and engineering. Her enthusiasm for teaching was clear.

Her first experience with Kumon was as a Kumon Parent. Mrs. Barbara enrolled her two children in the Kumon Math program and realized the effectiveness of the program. As a result, she decided to enroll them in the Reading program as well. Shortly thereafter, she embarked in a life-changing experience; becoming a Kumon Instructor.

Mrs. Barbara established the Kumon Center of Gilbert in 1991 and ever since, she has devoted herself to unleash each child’s potential. Mrs. Barbara is among Elite Kumon Instructors and her Center is one that has students stay the longest. Her attention to detail, her connection with the students, and communication with the parents make it possible for her students to be truly amazing.

Mr. JOSE Penaloza

Mr. Jose has a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Over the years, Mr. Jose worked in the field of Engineering, Marketing, and Management at several semiconductor companies. In the year 2001, Mr. Jose decided to launch his own Engineering and Marketing consulting firm.

Mr. Jose enjoys coaching, teaching, and challenging the students. His education and combined experience in the industry and private sector has equipped Mr. Jose with knowledge to continue mentoring our students.

Mr. Jose handles the day-to-day operations at the Center, Parent-Instructor Relations, and he is the Chief Instructor Assistant.

The Kumon Center of Gilbert has a total of eight staff members. All have met a strict background check and have passed the minimum standard subject knowledge requirement to assist your child.
